God’s Revelation

God’s Revelation

During September, we are reacquainting ourselves with the fact that Christianity is a revealed religion. It is so important to establish the credibility and the believability of the Bible. There is no knowledge of God from reason alone, 1 Corinthians 2.14. God must disclose himself to us. We believe the Bible to be that disclosure document. Today we’ll discuss the doctrine of revelation, the revealer, and His revelation.

I. THE DOCTRINE OF REVELATION:

    1. Hebrews 1.1-2 – The perfect place to begin.
    2. 1.1 – God spoke many times and many ways…

II. WHAT CAN WE LEARN ABOUT THE REVEALER?

    1. 1.1-2 – Long ago, at many times and in many ways,…
    2. Isaiah 46.5-7, 9-10 – He is not like the idols…
    3. Four quick facts about the revealer: He’s personal, moral, the beginning and the end, and available. See Exodus 34.6-7; Romans 11.36; Isaiah 40.28-31.

III. GOD’S REVELATION:

    1. The Revelation itself: What did He say?
      1. See Genesis 1-2. All the human reason in the world could never come up with the contents of this chapter. God told Moses what happened.
      2. Inspiration is the method by which God transmitted the revelation.
    2. Two broad categories of revelation.
      1. Natural revelation. Psalm 19.1-2; Romans 1.18-21.
        1. What does the end of Romans 1.20 say? No person has an excuse.
        2. Psalm 100.3 – Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
        3. The difficulty is with mankind. See Romans 1.21-22.
        4. But is natural revelation enough? Not according to John 14.6; Acts 4.12
      2. Special revelation. (Genesis-Revelation)
        1. Reveals God’s mercy, grace, forgiveness, Jesus’ sacrifice, salvation…
        2. How? Theophany; prophecy; dreams; visions; speaking; miracles.

CONCLUSION:

    1. What was the result of all this? Our Bible.
    2. John 20.30-31: it gives us sufficient testimony to believe.
    3. You’re responsible. You have the book. How well are you listening?
